Open Crystal Lake
It Belongs to All of Newton!
What We Believe
Crystal Lake is a beautiful local resource that all Newton residents should be able to enjoy to the full.
We believe that swimming at your own risk should be permitted during daylight hours from May to October for all swimmers aged 16 and over.
We are committed to ensuring the continued use and enhancement of the existing public bathhouse summer program.
We consider the status quo untenable: The constant police presence at Cronin’s Cove during the summer of 2011 was a waste of precious police resources as well as an intrusion on the neighbors and a disturbance to those who came to enjoy the lake.
We are committed to working closely with the Newton Police Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Mayor’s office to develop a legal and workable solution to the above situation.
We oppose nudity, drunkenness, sexual activity, and any other public nuisance behaviors at the lake, and we call on the police to enforce existing laws against these behaviors.
We support the Crystal Lake Conservancy’s efforts to ensure adequate water quality in all parts of Crystal Lake.
